Stories for Young Children

Bob The Biggest Christmas Tree

What happens when a boy can't find a Christmas tree in the lot that is BIG ENOUGH? He refuses to give up. He looks and looks until he finds a super tall Christmas tree that reaches all the way to outer space! It takes more electricity to light up this tree than it takes to power up the biggest city in the US! And his huge Christmas tree can be seen from coast to coast, from California and Florida.

Bob Color Blind

This story is my personal favorite in this collection. It is about a girl who is colorblind. She was born with eyes that cannot see colors. Everything looks plain and drab to her - even Christmas decorations! But things begin to change when she magically falls in love and experiences her first kiss! I wrote this story because I lost part of my color vision for many years due to cataracts. When they were finally removed it was as though the whole world exploded with color!!! I was soooooo happy to get my color vision back! That is why my drawings are brightly colored.

Bob Dino Chase!

All young boys are fascinated by dinosaurs. So I write several dino stories for my grandsons. This story has a surprise ending. A young boy hiking through Dino Land is spotted by a hungry dinosaur. Run! Run! Run for your life! For a while the boy is able to outrun the dino. But no matter how frightened he is, no little boy can outrun a dino for long! When the dino finally catches up with him, the boy seeks safety by climbing a tall tree - too high for the dino to reach. But then the dino tries to shake him out of the tree. Just when it seems like there's no hope, something unexpected happens!

Bob Dino Hunt!

This story reverses the previous one. This time it's the little boy who hunts the dino. And this in several imaginative ways! But not to worry. No dino actually gets hurt in this story - only humiliated!

Bob Frog Prince

I wrote this story for my grown daughter on her wedding anniversary. Your Mom might find this one kinda funny! But children may not. Girls, you may have to kiss several toads before you find your handsome prince!

Bob Magic Book

Grandmother has a "Magic Book" that she lets her grandchildren read on special occasions. It has pictures that come alive, so that you can step into the scene and actually be there. It's like time-travel and like teleportation. Some places are pleasant, others adventurous, and a few dangerous! There are three rules the children must obey. First, you must always tell Grandmother where you are going. Second, you must never bring back something from the imaginary world into the real world. Third, you must always come back from the imaginary world before sunset. Because if the sun sets while you are in the imaginary world, you will be trapped there FOREVER!

Bob Man-Eating Plant

Grandmother and her grandchild go to the zoo and see the man-eating plant. But grandmother forgot their lunch in the car and goes back to get it. She tells her grandchild, "Please wait here until I get back. And DON'T touch anything - especially that scary-looking plant." But while she is gone, her grandchild becomes curious and . . . .

Bob Sand Mountain

A small creek runs through my property. When my grandsons moved next door, the creek flooded badly during a winter rain and left a sandbar behind. How strange! That had never happened before. The sandbar was ideal for digging and other little boy activities. So we named it "Sand Mountain." We played on Sand Mountain for two years, until my grandsons moved to California. Shortly after they left another flood swept the sandbar away. So the sandbar came when my grandsons came and left when they left. How strange!!!

Bob Strawberry Ice Cream

I wrote this story while flying back from LA to Nashville. Like all make-believe stories, this one is partly based on fact. One fact is that strawberry is my favorite flavor of ice cream. The other is that my grandchildren have a mischievous black cat named Thunder who is strangely attracted to drinking straws. Don’t ask me why. That’s just the way he is. If you’re not looking, he will steal the straw from your drink and run away to chew and play with it. This story is built around these two unrelated facts

Bob Too Many Balloons

A children's book called, "The Red Balloon" intrigued me when I was young. I guess this is a spin-off. Also, I am afraid of heights - as is the little boy in the story who gets carried aloft!
